Sep 30, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Bestselling author David A. Koop, who’s memoir Cancer – It’s a Good Thing I Got It! Took the Gold Medal in the Readers’ Favorite International Book Awards in 2013, has announced a new collaboration with acclaimed Chicken Soup for the Soul author Jack Canfield.

Cancer – It’s a Good Thing I Got It! chronicles Koop’s battle with cancer after his diagnosis with osteosarcoma. His story presents readers with pragmatic tools for dealing with devastating medical issues as a patient or caregiver, but more importantly, the book is an uplifting testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Far from being a dirge of impending doom, the memoir candidly and often humorously addresses Koop’s apparent death sentence, his soul-searching and surprising reaction to his prognosis, and his journey to find new purpose in life.

Chicken Soup for the Soul by Jack Canfield and co-author Mark Victor Hansen, both motivational speakers, is a blockbuster non-fiction compilation of true and inspirational stories, many of which the two gathered from audience members over the years. The original book inspired a wildly successful series of spinoff books that have sold billions of copies worldwide.

Koop and Canfield plan to meet for marketing consultations in late September at Canfield’s Santa Barbara estate to develop possible strategies for Koop’s popular memoir, his public speaking engagements and a new initiative, currently in early development. The summit between the authors should be a boon for readers, who will benefit from better access to the author’s wisdom and messages of hope.

“Whatever plans that are developed with Mr. Canfield are only going to take my message and career to a whole new level,” Koop said. “I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about an opportunity.”

In addition to honing Koop’s marketing of Cancer – It’s a Good Thing I Got It!, the authors will discuss Koop’s next venture, Project WAIN, an upcoming initiative intended to provide hope to those dealing with a major illness and other key life obstacles. “I am looking forward to receiving guidance from Jack Canfield about how to develop Project WAIN so that it can provide hope to as many people as possible. We can really make a major change on a long term basis,” said Koop. “This will be my legacy, a foundation to continue on helping people long after I am gone.”
