The process to complete dental implants takes several months, but is designed to last a lifetime. First, Dr. Pate makes an incision in the gum of the patient and implants a small titanium screw into the jaw bone. The implant is given 3-6 months to heal, during which time the jaw bone fuses with the implant, creating an extremely sturdy base, similar to the natural tooth root. Once healed, Dr. Pate places a customized porcelain crown on the implant that has been designed along with the patient to be the shape, size, and shade they desire.
