Apr 25, 2018 /prREACH/ -- Sacramento, Ca – Asher College is pleased to announce the recent publication of Understanding Computer Basics, an instructional book by Asher College Information Technology Instructor Christopher P. Anderson.  Understanding Computer Basics details important information and step-by-step guides to computer hardware, software, networking, file and disk management, troubleshooting, Microsoft Office, the Internet, email and more. According to Anderson, the book will help introduce the computer world in a simple and easy to understand way.

Christopher Anderson is an I.T. instructor at Asher College in Sacramento. Anderson has more than 25 years of experience working in information technology and electronics, yet he completely understands the need for beginners to start with the basics. He began teaching in 2011 and found that some students needed additional instruction due to their different backgrounds and levels of understanding. Some students, Anderson relates, come from backgrounds that include as many as twenty years of experience in a given field, yet those careers had required very little knowledge of computers. As a result, these individuals are not as familiar with computers as others who have been involved with them recently.

Without a basic foundation of computer knowledge, Anderson found, individuals get lost with the various components, terms and ways of using the computers. For example, if someone doesn't understand basics such as how to turn on a computer, how to use a mouse, or what the difference between a CD and DVD ROM is, it is unrealistic to expect them to jump into software, networking, or more advanced topics. Computers are complex, and people can become frustrated and discouraged when they lack a basic understanding. Anderson found book publishers were leaving behind the basics, which led him to write his own book.

While Understanding Computer Basics can be used by beginners, it also aims to prepare entry-level students for important computer certifications, like the CompTIA IT Fundamentals or CompTIA A+ certification. The objective in certifications like these include computer repair, networking and security. The CompTIA A+ is considered the industry standard for establishing a career in Information Technology.

Alcinda Wolff, a Project Manager at Hewlett Packard says, “Whether you are just getting comfortable with your computer, beginning to explore Information Technology as a career, or a seasoned professional like myself, this book could be a great resource for you.”

Anderson has an Associate’s Degree in Electronic Engineering Technology, an Associate’s Degree in Information Technology and a Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology. He is currently working on his Masters of Science Degree in Information Technology & Management. For more information on Christopher Anderson’s Understanding Computer Basics book, visit Amazon.
