The firm is a member of the global Cornerstone International Group and has already been chosen to find the next president of Craven Community College in North Carolina. “Higher education is facing significant challenges and opportunities,” says Larry Shoemaker, president of Cornerstone Atlanta and Shoemaker & Associates. “Community colleges in particular will have to deal with the retirement of as many as 50% of Presidents over the next five years.” To head the new practice, the firm has engaged a prominent figure in U.S. education circles. Anne McNutt, Ph.D., has more than 25 years of experience as president of two community colleges and has been active nationally, serving on the Boards of the American Association of Community Colleges and the American Council on Education. In addition, she has chaired numerous accreditation visits for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges and presented and published extensively at regional and national meetings. “I’m excited about this new practice,” says Dr. McNutt. “This is support for community colleges that comes at exactly the right time. They need to be able to think outside the box to recruit and develop the education leaders of the future. That means considering candidates from the private and public sectors as well as academia.” Dr. McNutt’s experience includes serving on search committees that have recruited and recommended presidents for community colleges. She has also led recruiting efforts that identified and attracted strong contributors to her organizations in various senior level roles.
