Dec 15, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Gregory Law Group, PLLC announced today that it has opened an office in Houston, TX to accommodate increasing demand and better serve clients in the area.

At this time, the office is open by appointment only for anyone in the Houston area requiring the services of a qualified tax attorney. The new location will also meet an increasing demand for international tax attorneys in the Houston area.

Gregory Law Group, PLLC represents clients with international and domestic issues in all phases of the audit, appeals and collection processes before the IRS. The firm also represents clients in US Tax Court. While at the IRS, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory served on the international field counsel. Gregory Law Group, PLLC helps taxpayers resolve their offshore asset disclosure issues.

The IRS recently announced sweeping changes to its 2012 Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP). If one is a US person ("U.S. person" includes U.S. citizens, U.S. residents, and some types of entities) that has a financial interest in or signatory authority over a foreign financial account, one is required to file a Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts ("FBAR"). Failure to do so could result in significant civil and potential criminal penalties. The OVDP allows taxpayers to come forward and disclose their foreign accounts and the income earned by these accounts, at reduced civil penalty rates. Taxpayers who disclose their accounts through the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program before getting caught by the IRS can generally avoid criminal prosecution. "We are seeing a large increase in clients with offshore disclosure issues," says Mr. Gregory. He further states that" with increased cross-border mobilization, more and more people are 'straddling' jurisdictions and as the workforce becomes more globalized, more and more people run afoul of the US' offshore disclosure rules and don't even realize it." The OVDP is a highly technical IRS program and requires the assistance of an experienced international tax attorney like Deborah and Garrett Gregory.

While at the IRS, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory worked in the Large Business and International Division of IRS' Chief Counsel's Office. They worked on large business and international tax audits, representing the IRS through the audit, appeals and Tax Court processes. They also witnessed first-hand the devastating effects that IRS audits can have on businesses and individuals.

Gregory Law Group, PLLC also represents taxpayers before the IRS in collection matters. Owing the IRS back taxes can be a very scary and frustrating process. If one owes the IRS back taxes, they can and will place liens on personal and real property, levy bank accounts and garnish wages. It is vitally important to call a tax attorney immediately when one first receives notification that they owe the IRS.
