Dec 21, 2015 /prREACH/ -- Bachmann’s Pools and Spas selling new and used hot tubs, swim spas, pools and saunas in the greater Madison, WI area publishes “Three Simple Ways to Stay Healthy During the Holidays”.
“The holiday kick-off usually starts with Thanksgiving at the end of November and doesn’t slow down until the “morning after” on January 1st,” says Fred Bachmann, President of Bachmann Pools and Spas. “That is a long five weeks’ worth of celebrating, hectic shopping, crazy family get-togethers, office parties and carousing with friends.”
“While it may not seem like a long time in comparison to the rest of the year, the “holiday 10” isn’t a myth. It is a common occurrence. During those quick five weeks, gaining as much as ten pounds isn’t hard at all,” continued Bachmann. Here are 3 simple ways to stay healthy during the holidays while enjoying the festivities and spirit of the time.
Avoid Trigger Foods – A lot of people are aware of the fact that certain foods trigger an impulse to eat too much. Many of them believe that these foods are simply irresistible to them, and are cause by their own lack of discipline, but in reality, those foods are hard for anyone to control. They are pitfalls that cause an increase in appetite rather than satisfying it. They include anything made with white flour, rice or potatoes.
Instead of these diet-busters that are found so often on holiday menu plans, reach for better alternatives like bean salads, whole grain rolls or biscuits. Or, simply just say no to the troublesome foods altogether and enjoy the time with family and friends.
Don’t Drink Extra Calories – the holidays are full of enough calorie laden food without adding more to the meal with sugary drinks or mixers. Stick with water or unsweetened tea with meals, and keep alcoholic beverages to a minimum. Mixed drinks that use high-calorie mixers should be avoided, and replaced with wine or low calorie beer instead when a toast is in order.
Get Rid of the Extra Pounds with a Madison Hot Tub – Having a hot tub available at home is a great way to enjoy time with family and friends, but it also has some extra benefits for the holidays. A study by Phillip L. Hooper, M.D., showed that soaking in a hot tub for 30 minutes a day can help lower blood sugar and increase weight loss. For an even better way to avoid the “holiday ten,” plan a party around the hot tub and have guests gather, have fun, enjoy the celebration and keep off weight too.
To encourage local residents to check out the benefits of owning their own hot tub, Bachmann’s will be providing free hot tub wet tests for the entire month. They do recommend however that people wanting to schedule their free 30-minute wet test call them ahead of time to reserve their spot.
