Mar 17, 2014 /prREACH/ -- WASHINGTON STATE- Leading U.S. spiral staircase manufacture Salter Spiral Stairs has been chosen to install a spiral staircase on the SR-520 floating bridge in Washington State to help with the state’s refurbishing of the bridge.
“Winning the bid to be a part of Washington State’s refurbishing of the SR-520 floating bridge is truly a winner for all parties,” said Kelly Narke of Salter Spiral Stairs. “We are happy to work on a project that includes strong ‘Buy American’ clauses, and we look forward to building the spiral stairs for the pontoon using American labor”.
The state of Washington chose Salter to install the staircase after reviewing its options, and determining that a spiral staircase fits much better for the project than a traditional straight staircase. A straight staircase would’ve taken up too much room on the floating pontoon, while a spiral staircase can fit vertically without taking up any additional space.
The spiral staircase will be placed on the floating pontoon to help with maintenance of the bridge.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the SR-520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program will “enhance safety by replacing the aging floating bridge and keep the region moving with vital transit and roadway improvements throughout the corridor.”
