Phoenix , Arizona , Mar 16, 2020 /prREACH/ -- A non-profit organization, 16 x 16 Inc., was founded in 2019 by Lee Perreira as a platform to support children and families, help people in need and improve the quality of life in communities while inspiring others. "Through many individual contributions, fundraising events, business sponsorships, ticket sales, donations and more, we raise money for local charities in need. 16 x 16 works closely with and provides funding to many organizations to achieve our goals for the betterment of our community," Perreira explained.
As an endurance athlete, Perreira took his motto, "Inspire others. The depth of inspiring others cannot be measured," and turned it into the fundraising adventure, "16 Marathons in 16 Days." From Sunday, March 24 to Monday, April 8, 2019, Perreira ran from his home in Phoenix, Arizona, to Burbank, California, covering over 450 miles on foot through the Mojave Desert and the San Bernardino Mountains.
The goal of the fundraiser was to raise $1 million for four amazing charities; AZ Cancer Foundation for Children, Chrysalis - Driving out Domestic Violence, Arizona Health Care Foundation and The Ellen Fund. Perreira's secondary goal was to meet Ellen DeGeneres, the person who inspired him to give back to his community. "I ran from my front door to her front door at Warner Brothers Studios in California," he said.
Although neither goal was fully realized, Perreira found the fundraiser to be a life-changing journey. "It showed me what the mind, body and soul are capable of when you truly have purpose," Perriera explained.
With a stream of messages telling Perreira how his journey has spread inspiration to others, he has chosen to embark on a second 16 Marathons in 16 Days adventure, retracing his steps from Phoenix, Arizona to Burbank, California from Sunday, March 29 through Monday, April 13, 2020. Each day will be live-streamed from Perreira's FaceBook page so others can follow his journey every step of the way.
"I have faith that with YOUR help, we can achieve these goals and create a massive positive impact on the world," he said.
