Chip has a long, successful career in business development and has extensive research based consulting experience with the world’s leading technology companies. He has consulted with the largest patent portfolio companies in the world and has been in the patent research space since 2002. Chip continues his business development role at TechPats.
With an entrepreneurial backgroun, Chip was a principal and founding member of several different start-up research companies, including; vcmVertical, 1790 Analytics and 1790 Capital. Chip co-founded 1790 Analytics in 2004, a globally respected patent analytics firm and he co-founded 1790 Capital in 2005, the first patent-based investment model hedge fund in the industry.
Prior to creating the 1790 companies, Chip was the only VP of Business Development at CHI Research (a company based with mostly Ph.D. level analysts). CHI Research was the leading patent research firm for over 25 years and did groundbreaking patent-based research analysis for the NSF. Chip played an instrumental role in the successful sale of CHI Research in 2004.
Prior to working in the patent industry, Chip worked in business development with two quantitative research firms that consulted with Fortune 100 companies. One of the research firms (The Response Center) had a successful exit and went public in 1998.
He holds a B.A. in Communications from Temple University.
