Dec 29, 2014 /prREACH/ -- “It’s December, and that means it’s time for building managers in New York City to file Energy Efficiency Reports in line with provisions of Local Law 87,” says Jeff Carleton, president of Carleton Energy Consulting. “Reporting is mandatory and noncompliance may result in fines. Completed reports include a Professional Certification Form as well as an accounting of Data Collection Tools and are to be filed electronically with the Department of Buildings. Reports are due on December 31.”

Local Law 87: Background - The goal of Local Law 87 (LL87) is to help business owners in the city maintain efficient, high-performing buildings. Currently, all buildings in excess of 50,000 square feet must undergo periodic energy audits to highlight energy use and retro-commissioning measures as part of the Greener, Greater Buildings Plan (GGBP). The law was designed to help building owners understand energy consumption through energy audits and retro-commissioning to ensure proper equipment installation and performance.

What Should Be Included In the Report - According to the law, completed reports must include a Professional Certification Form, which details information on the filing status of buildings including Energy Audit and Retro-Commissioning structure. Reports must include a professional seal and qualifications as well as information on whether the building was exempt from the Audit or Retro-Commissioning process. Each report must also include a statement of compliance by the owner. A separate Professional Certification Form needs to be submitted for both Energy Audit and Retro-Commissioning Data Collection Tools.
