Apr 20, 2015 /prREACH/ -- Capitola, CA, — March 14, 2015 — Dr. Brian Schabel, co-owner of North Coast Orthodontics learned the importance of evidence-based research at an early stage in his career, while doing an orthodontic externship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.  While there, he wrote a case report that focused on the area of dental, smile and facial aesthetics, which was published in The Angle Orthodontist.

“Through my extensive research I have learned to balance a perfectly functional bite with the most esthetic outcome possible, placing emphasis on non-extraction treatment and establishing harmony between the hard and soft tissues of the face,” stated Dr. Schabel.

Dr. Schabel’s commitment to advancing the art and science of orthodontics was further developed while writing his Master’s thesis in orthodontics at the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan. Dr. Schabel sought an answer to the age-old question: Can something as subjective as beauty actually be measured? He compared hundreds of objective measurements of the face and smile against subjective ratings by a panel of orthodontists and parents of orthodontic patients of the same smile’s attractiveness. He has also published five papers in International Orthodontic Journals on smile and facial esthetics.

In order to stay abreast of the constant changes in orthodontic technologies and treatment methodologies, Dr. Schabel regularly hosts and attends training and continuing education seminars.

Raised in Santa Cruz, California, Dr. Brian Schabel attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology, with a concentration in anatomy and physiology. He went on to receive his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and then undertook a three-year residency in the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he received his Master of Science degree.
