Sep 28, 2015 /prREACH/ -- DALLAS -- Terrorism. Global unrest. Economic uncertainty. Racial discord. Corruption scandals. Turn on any news report or open any newspaper and these issues dominate. As America is poised to enter a year that promises even more challenge and controversy, the need for strong leadership is starkly evident.
But many wonder what "strong leadership" entails and how it is defined, developed and deployed. Those questions and more will be addressed as the Dallas Citizens Council hosts University of Texas System Chancellor William H. McRaven at its annual luncheon on Thursday, December 3, 2015. The event is presented by Ryan, LLC and is co-chaired by Senior Counsel for Bracewell & Giuliani LLP and former U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and James Huffines, President and COO of PlainsCapital Corporation.
"To say that the Council is excited to have Chancellor McRaven on hand to share his invaluable insights on leadership is an understatement," said Clint McDonnough, Chairman of Dallas Citizens Council. "When this year's theme of 'Leadership When the Stakes are High' was selected, no one could have imagined hosting a speaker who so perfectly embodies that concept."
Prior to being selected to lead one of the largest university systems in the country, Chancellor McRaven was best known for his illustrious 37-year military career. As head of the U.S. Special Operations Command, Admiral McRaven, (Ret.), won worldwide praise for hunting down Osama bin Laden. He also garnered international acclaim for his 2014 University of Texas commencement address on leadership, which has been viewed online more than 50 million times.
"The Dallas Citizens Council annual luncheon has become one of the cornerstone events for Dallas' business community, so the board and staff dig deep to secure thought leaders who will help engage and inspire our city's leadership to move forward in the coming year," said Dallas Citizens Council President Alice Murray. "Chancellor McRaven fits that bill perfectly and an announcement will soon come of a nationally renowned broadcast journalist to lead our unique interview format."
Ms. Murray said that based on early sponsor demand and table sales, the event is expected to draw a capacity crowd to the downtown Dallas Hyatt Regency Hotel, where it will begin at 11:30 AM in the Reunion Ballroom.
