Nov. 11, 2015 WOODLAND, Calif.—Simpson University celebrated the opening of its new regional center in Woodland on Oct. 29, with local, state and university leaders offering welcome and remarks. “(Woodland is) so happy that this day has come and is so very grateful Simpson University has chosen Woodland for its expansion campus,” Woodland Mayor Tom Stallard said.
Starting in January, the center, located at 715 Lincoln Ave., will offer degree-completion programs for those wishing to earn bachelor’s degrees in business management, psychology, and organizational leadership. Some of the programs, designed to accommodate working adults, can be completed in 12 months. The center also offers two graduate degrees through Simpson University’s A.W. Tozer Theological Seminary: a master of divinity and master of arts in ministry leadership.
Dr. John Burlison, dean of adult studies and online programs at Simpson, thanked the city of Woodland, chamber of commerce, Woodland Community College, and university trustee Ray Van Gilst for their investment and partnership in the expansion. “Simpson University is grateful and thankful for the reception it has received here in Woodland,” he said.
Other speakers included Simpson University President Robin Dummer; representatives from the offices of Congressman John Garamendi, Assemblyman Bill Dodd and state Sen. Lois Wolk; Yolo County supervisors Duane Chamberlain and Matt Rexroad; and Dr. Michael White, president of Woodland Community College. Speakers commented on the importance of accessible education for the largely rural region. Several talked about Simpson University’s academic excellence and its motto of “Gateway to World Service.”
“They’re not just about changing the region,” Rexroad said. “They’re about changing the world.”
A reception followed the ribbon-cutting at “The Lincoln,” BlackPine Holding’s corporate office and event center. Attendees also toured classrooms in the new regional center.
