May 03, 2017 /prREACH/ -- Kenneth Huewitt, a veteran financial professional with more than 25 years of experience in advanced financial management, has been named a 2017 recipient of the Texas State University Distinguished Alumnus Award.
A Certified Public Accountant who has managed over a one billion dollar budget and the construction and servicing of several educational facilities, Mr. Huewitt currently serves as Vice President for Administration and Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Texas Southern University in Houston.
"Ken Huewitt exemplifies everything that a Texas State Alum should be: dedicated, hard-working, ultra-talented and committed to doing the right thing in the right way. The man is Bobcat pride in the flesh," said Mr. Mitchell Ward, a member of the 'texas State University Foundation Board of Directors.
Mr. Huewitt began his career as an auditor with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and has held a variety of roles during his career including Senior Audit Specialist for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, Senior Associate for Coopers & Lybrand, and Regional Director of Finance for The ServiceMaster Corporation.
Shortly after leaving ServiceMaster, he joined the Houston Independent School District, where over a decade and a half he rose to the rank of Chief Financial Officer, leading all the finance and audit functions of the state's largest public school district with a budget in excess of $1.8 billion serving 215,000 students on 283 campuses.
Mr. Huewitt holds a B.B.A. in Accounting from Texas State University. A Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor, Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Financial Services Auditor and Chartered Global Management Accountant, Mr. Huewitt is active in the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants, and The Institute of Internal Auditors.
A proud Bobcat who believes deeply in giving back, he recently served as Chairman of the Texas State University Development Foundation Board, member of the T--Association Board, and past-president of the Alumni Association Board.
While attending Texas State, he was a member of the back-to-back National Championship football teams in 1981 and 1982. In 2007, Ken was an inductee into the T-Association's Hall of Honor, the highest honor for any athlete at Texas State.
Since its establishment in 1959, the Distinguished Alumnus Award has recognized the University's alumni who have achieved significant prominence in their profession, accomplishments, affiliations, and service to society and the University. The first recipient was Senator. Lyndon B. Johnson, who later served as thirty-sixth President of the United States of America.
To this day, LBJ's legacy inspires excellence at Texas State University as it maintains the unique distinction of being the only university in Texas to have graduated a U.S. President.
