Jul 18, 2017 /prREACH/ -- Prospective parents who make the wonderful decision to grow their family through adoption are often influenced by the well perpetuated myth that it is easier to adopt a child internationally than it is to adopt inside of the United States. But the reality is that around 18,000 infants are adopted in the U.S. every year and typically more than half are matched with their child within six months of being approved and in most cases, the child match occurs in less than a year. Factors that can impact this timeline include the availability of birth mothers and the flexibility of the adoptive parents.
Adoptions From The Heart, a private non-profit adoption agency, has been helping build families since 1985. They work hard to provide support to all members of what they refer to as the “adoption triad”, the birth parents, adoptive parents, and child.
For birth mothers, information on all of their options, help obtaining medical care for mother and child, legal assistance, and comprehensive supportive counseling are available. For prospective parents, information on financial assistance, counseling, home studies, and other services are available. Even if prospective parents decide that an international adoption is a better fit for them, international home study assistance is available.
Prospective individuals and couples in Virginia who are interested in learning more have the opportunity to attend an informational meeting titled “Discover Domestic Adoption” on August 23rd, 2017 at 6:30 pm at the Tuckahoe Branch Library in Henrico, VA. This event is hosted by the Richmond, Virginia Adoptions From The Heart office and their experienced adoption professionals and social workers will be available to answer any questions at the end of the session. Everyone is welcome to attend – Adoptions From The Heart follows a non-discrimination policy and services are provided to all clients regardless of their race, religion, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, and age.
