Las Vegas, NV, Jan 07, 2020 /prREACH/ -- Asher College of Las Vegas has announced it will begin offering a new Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Pharmacy Technology. Asher College is committed to training high-quality job candidates for in-demand careers, and this new AAS program furthers Asher’s commitment by extending its existing program offerings in the field of healthcare services.
Pharmacy technicians are important healthcare professionals, essential to the success of pharmacies. Pharmacy technicians work hand-in-hand with pharmacists and are responsible for helping licensed pharmacists fill and dispense medications prescribed to patients by medical professionals. Pharmacy technicians establish and maintain patient record files, submit insurance claim forms and manage prescription and over-the-counter medication inventories. Pharmacy technicians often interact directly with patients and must adhere to HIPAA and other Federal and State regulations concerning confidentiality.
Asher College’s AAS Pharmacy Technology program is a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)-recognized education/training program, teaching students the essential knowledge and practical skills necessary to be successful in entry-level positions. Students learn how to fill prescriptions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, utilize relevant software applications, recognize the classifications of drugs and scheduled drugs, understand brand, generic, and OTC (over the counter) medications, adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations and comprehend and perform insurance procedures.
Because it is an Associate of Applied Science degree program, there are also general education requirements including American Government, Nevada Constitution, Business Math, and Business Communication. The certification portion of the AAS program can be completed in as little as 45 weeks, allowing the student to pursue their Pharmacy Technician certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), register for their license with the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy and begin working in their field while finishing up the additional courses for the degree.
With additional locations in Sacramento, California and Dallas, Texas, Asher College offers Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificate programs for careers in information technology, administrative health services, and business administration. Asher College holds accreditation through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET). Accreditation is an assurance that the school and the program meet national standards, and Asher is monitored on both graduation and placement rates in order to maintain accreditation. Asher College’s mission is to prepare students for new careers through quality, market-driven career education.
