Sacramento, CA, Jan 15, 2020 /prREACH/ -- Asher College of Sacramento will now offer an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) in Pharmacy Technology. Committed to training high-quality job candidates for in-demand careers, Asher College’s new AAS program furthers this commitment by extending its existing program offerings in the field of healthcare services.

Pharmacy technicians work hand-in-hand with pharmacists and are essential to the success of pharmacies. These important healthcare professionals are responsible for helping licensed pharmacists fill and dispense medications prescribed to patients by medical professionals. Responsibilities of pharmacy technicians include establishing and maintaining patient record files, submitting insurance claim forms, and managing prescription and over-the-counter medication inventories. Pharmacy technicians often interact directly with patients and must understand and abide by HIPAA, Federal and State regulations concerning confidentiality.

The AAS Pharmacy Technology program at Asher College is a Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB)-recognized education/training program. Students learn essential skills to be employable in entry-level positions, including how to fill prescriptions under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, utilize relevant software applications, recognize the classifications of drugs and scheduled drugs, understand brand, generic, and OTC (over the counter) medications, adhere to HIPAA privacy regulations, and comprehend and perform insurance procedures. Asher’s pharmacy technology program is an Associate of Applied Science degree program, so there are also general education requirements, which include American Government, Business Math, and Business Communication. Students can complete the certification portion of the AAS program in as little as 45 weeks, allowing them to pursue their Pharmacy Technician certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB), apply for state licensure with the California Board of Pharmacy and begin working in their field while finishing up the additional courses for the degree.

Asher College’s mission is to prepare students for new careers through quality, market-driven career education. Asher also offers Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificate programs for careers in information technology, administrative health services, and business administration and has additional locations in Las Vegas, Nevada, and Dallas, Texas. Asher is monitored on graduation and placement rates to maintain accreditation through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET); this accreditation shows that the school and its program meet national standards.
