Sacramento, CA, Oct 18, 2020 /prREACH/ -- The Ticket to Dream organization recognizes the contributions of a team of students at Asher College Sacramento for its help in refurbishing over 900 laptops. The refurbished laptops were then distributed by the Ticket to Dream Foundation to foster youth in need across the west coast.
Ticket to Dream has a goal to provide laptops access to as many foster youths as possible. Not only do these laptops help foster youth complete homework and access online classes, but they are vital to teaching computer skills, keeping connected with support systems and employment. With less than 60% of foster youth having consistent access to a computer, the digital divide is growing. Ticket to Dream has a long waiting list of organizations and youth who still need access.
In addition to donating new laptop computers to youths in need, the organization also distributes refurbished laptops through this unique partnership with Asher College. A generous corporate donor has supplied the organization with high-quality used laptops, and Asher College has partnered with Ticket to Dream to perform the necessary work to prepare the computers for distribution.
The donated computers go to the team of students at Asher College Sacramento, who wipe the hard drive clean and install brand new software. Each of the donated laptops goes through a rigorous cleaning process and receives a new decal to cover up any scratches outside of the laptop. The result is a perfectly refurbished laptop, ready to be placed in the hands of foster youth in need.
With the COVID pandemic, the Ticket to Dream organization felt that it was more important than ever to get laptops into kids' hands to ensure they could access class. Asher College was proud to help make its mission possible during this challenging time. “Taking on a refurbishing project like this is something Ticket to Dream could never have handled on our own. But Asher College and its passionate students made this possible. It has helped over 900 foster youth access the computer they need to do well in school and build job skills while gaining hands-on tech skills during the refurbishment. It’s the perfect partnership!” said Ticket to Dream Executive Director, Gina Davis. “When COVID ceased in-person classes at Asher, their team pivoted with us to find safe ways to keep these laptops coming as the need for laptops is greater than ever.”
Asher College has three locations: Sacramento, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Dallas, Texas. Asher offers Associate of Applied Science degrees and certificate programs for careers in information technology, administrative health services, business administration, and Asher through the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education and Training (ACCET); this accreditation shows that the school and its program meet national standards.
