Pueblo, Colorado, Nov 06, 2020 /prREACH/ -- In response to the rising demand for qualified electrical technicians nationwide, IntelliTec College is introducing a new program to the Pueblo campus. The Electrical Technician Certification program is designed to be achievable in 10.5-months. The next start date for this program is Nov. 16, 2020.

A career-training institute, IntelliTec College’s mission is to train students to fill the jobs that are in high demand in their communities. As the American power grid expands, the country’s demand for skilled electrical technicians is outpacing the current supply. A new research report from hand tools maker, Klein Tools, and consulting firm The Accelerate Group, details severe shortages in the U.S. electrical workforce gap in the near-and-long-term. According to the “Dark by 2050” report, to meet the need of our growing power infrastructure, the U.S. must train between 107,000 and 224,000 new electrician and line worker apprentices between now and 2030.

IntelliTec has created the Electrical Technician program to help meet this growing demand. IntelliTec College’s 10.5-month Electrical Technician Certification program is designed to teach students the skills and knowledge necessary for entry-level employment. Students learn hands-on skills and critical theory to complete essential tasks of the trade, including connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components; planning the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes; inspecting electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes. Students learn to use various tools and equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps. Using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, students learn to test electrical systems for continuity or circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures to ensure compatibility and safety of the system.

Upon completion of the program, students are prepared to register as an Electrical Apprentice, and upon completion of 4,000 hours of required work experience, may sit for the Residential Wireman exam provided by the Division of Professions and Occupations Colorado Electrical Board. IntelliTec’s program prepares students to obtain job titles such as Electrical Technician, Electrical Repair Technician or Residential Wireman in the residential, commercial, and construction industries.

The demand for electricians is growing, and IntelliTec is excited to expand our program offerings to serve our students better. Visit IntelliTec’s website to learn more about IntelliTec College and the Electrical Technician program page to learn more about the 10.5-month certification program.
