Colorado Springs, CO, Dec 17, 2020 /prREACH/ -- IntelliTec College, a renowned career-training institute, is pleased to announce a key expansion to its curriculum. The trade school's Colorado Springs campus will offer a 10.5-month Electrical Technician Certification program, beginning Jan. 11, 2021. This expansion comes in response to the rising demand for qualified electrical technicians all over the United States.

IntelliTec operates with the mission to train students for the jobs that are in high demand in their communities. The country's demand for skilled electrical technicians has significantly outpaced the current supply since expanding the American power grid. In fact, Klein Tools, with consulting firm The Accelerate Group, recently released a report detailing severe shortages in the U.S. electrical workforce for the near and long-term future. According to this "Dark by 2050" report, to meet the needs of growing power infrastructure, the United States must train between 107,000 and 224,000 new electricians and line worker apprentices by 2030.
IntelliTec College developed the electrician training school program to help meet this growing demand. The program is designed to give students the tools to gain entry-level employment after completion. Students attending the course will learn hands-on skills and critical theory to perform essential tasks such as:
- Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components
- Planning the layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes
- Inspecting electrical systems, equipment or components to identify hazards, defects or the need for adjustment or repair and to ensure compliance with codes
- Using a variety of tools and equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters or test lamps
- Using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters or oscilloscopes
- Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment or fixtures
After the completion of the program, electricians will be ready to register as an electrical apprentice. Upon completion of 4,000 hours of required work experience, they also have the option to appear for the Residential Wireman exam, provided by the Division of Professions and Occupations Colorado Electrical Board. IntelliTec's program prepares students to obtain job titles such as electrical technician, electrical repair technician or residential wireman in the residential, commercial and construction industries.
"The demand for electricians is growing, and IntelliTec is excited to expand our program offerings to serve our students in Colorado Springs better," says a spokesperson from the technical school.
