Bakersfield, CA, Apr 05, 2021 /prREACH/ -- High Desert Medical College of Bakersfield, CA, is excited to announce the addition of SonoSim technology to the Ultrasound Technician program. The SonoSim Training Solution offers state-of-the-art educational modules that complement students’ training by providing remote hands-on ultrasound training, real-patient scanning cases and pathologies, didactic instruction, and assessment. The Ultrasound Technician program is offered at each of HDMC’s three campus locations: Lancaster, Bakersfield, and Temecula, California.

High Desert Medical College (HDMC) of Bakersfield, CA, offers programs for students interested in training for careers in the healthcare field. HDMC’s Ultrasound Technician program prepares students for immediate entry-level positions in the field and is designed to be completed in as few as 84 weeks. Students in the Ultrasound Technology program learn critical theoretical knowledge and practical hands-on skills through a combination of coursework, clinical labs, and an externship. Under the guidance of skilled faculty, HDMC students learn to use specialized equipment. There are five required courses in the Ultrasound Technician program: Medical Terminology; Anatomy, Physiology and Physics; Ultrasound Laboratory, Abdomen, OBGYN and Vascular Externship course. Upon completing the program, students receive a Certificate of Completion, Ultrasound Technology diploma and are prepared for immediate entry-level employment.

At HDMC's mission is to prepare students thoroughly for actual employment in the field. To accomplish this mission, HDMC offers students the most current and up-to-date industry training techniques. HDMC is excited to now offer Ultrasound Technology students access to the innovative SonoSim Ultrasound Training Solution platform. SonoSim provides a breakthrough ultrasound training experience, including on-demand access to pathologies, peer-reviewed courses, a mobile app, and performance tracking. Studying at home, students simply insert the SonoSim Probe into a USB port, and their personal computer is instantly transformed into a bedside ultrasound-training environment. SonoSim utilizes the world’s largest online library of actual patient cases with a broad spectrum of normal and real pathologic conditions, so students can simulate real-world experiences. The SonoSim program offers students immediate probe-positioning guidance and expert feedback while scanning real-patient cases.

In announcing the addition of SonoSim technology to the Ultrasound program, HDMC’s Ultrasound Program Director Chelsea Thomson, RDMS, said, “The addition of SonoSim to our students’ education provides a learning experience that surpasses what can traditionally be offered in a lab setting. Students will gain access to pathologies, procedures and case studies to prepare them for what they will encounter in the field. This tool helps take the lab home with them so that they can practice the hands-on application outside of course hours and will help them set themselves apart from others entering the field.”

SonoSim’s innovative, patented technology offers HDMC students the most current, relevant industry training available today. Training to be an ultrasound technician is a popular choice amongst students looking to enter the healthcare field. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects increasing growth in this field as sonography becomes an increasingly attractive alternative to radiological procedures. The BLS predicts the field will grow faster than the average rate of 12% annually through 2029, adding approximately 15,600 new jobs to the economy. Many ultrasound technicians/ digital medical sonographers find positions in public and private hospitals; others work in private practices, physicians offices, medical and diagnostic laboratories and outpatient care centers.
