Colin Grant is of Jamaican origin and was born in Hitchin, England. He has written and directed several plays, including "The Clinic," which was inspired by the lives of photojournalists Don McCullin and Tim Page. He is also the author of many popular books, including "Negro with a Hat: The Rise and Fall of Marcus Garvey and His Dream of Mother Africa."
Grant started working for the BBC in 1991 as a TV script editor. He also served as radio producer of arts and science programs on the World Service and Radio 4. He produced the two-part documentary, "Caribbean Voices (1943--1958)," in 2009. He wrote and directed several radio drama-documentaries, such as "African Man of Letters: The Life of Ignatius Sancho," "A Fountain of Tears: The Murder of Federico Garcia Lorca," and "Move Over Charlie Brown: The Rise of Boondocks." His latest book, "Homecoming: Voices of the Windrush Generation" was released in November 2020.
