Jul 17, 2013 /prREACH/ -- Renowned dog bite expert, Dr. Richard Polsky, Ph.D., has recently rendered testimony in a Florida dog bite case, resulting in a substantial $1.26 million award. In case number 005-2007-CA-012289 in the 18th Circuit Court of Brevard County, Florida, Ms. Marie Tatman alleged an Akita mauled her left foot at a dog show in Melbourne, Florida. According to case documents, the incident happened as the Plaintiff was walking near the dog. Held on a slack leash by the dog's trainer, the dog allegedly lunged at the Plaintiff, and would not let go of the elderly Plaintiff until others pulled the dog off. Medical documents submitted with the case show that the elderly Plaintiff sustained substantial injuries to her left foot, necessitating five surgeries. The result of these surgeries was that her left leg was shortened by approximately 3 inches. The Plaintiff pursued legal action against the dog's owner, the dog's trainer, and the rescue organization who adopted the dog out.
The Akita in question was a rescued animal, whom had a documented history of a fetish attacking feet. Discovery documents submitted in the case show a trail of emails between the dog's owner and the rescue organization which discussed a history of aggressive behavior. Hired by the Plaintiff's attorney, dog expert Dr. Richard Polsky was asked to provide testimony about the dog's aggression in this action for negligent handling. His testimony in this case contributed to the large award of $1.26 million to the Plaintiff.
