Jul 15, 2015 /prREACH/ -- Dr. Harold Brooks, dentist at Vero Dental Spa in Vero Beach, FL is offering patients with gum disease the latest state-of-the-art treatment to improve their oral health without scalpels and surgery. Using non-surgical periodontal therapy, Dr. Brooks is able to help Vero Beach patients improve their oral health, kill bacteria residing in their gums, and do so without invasive measures at a lower cost than traditional surgery.
Throughout the more than four decades of his dental career, Dr. Brooks has seen the evolution of gum disease treatment starting with his training as a periodontist with the U.S. Air Force. Traditional treatment for gum disease involved surgically removing the diseased gums with the use of scalpels and suturing, however, this method often led to the recurrence of bacteria and failed results. Using the latest tools and techniques, however, Dr. Brooks has not had to perform conventional gum surgery in more than 15 years, and offers patients a better option for restoring their oral health.
Studies show that 8 in 10 adults in the U.S. have some form of gum diseases. In fact, former Surgeon General David Satcher referred to gum disease as the silent epidemic, because not only can it lead to tooth loss, but studies have also linked heart and lung disease.
Dr. Brooks has special certifications with Perio Protect, the leader in minimally invasive gum disease that offers patients a gentle, yet effective way to treat the bacteria that is at the root of their gum disease. Instead of surgically removing diseased gum tissue as was done in the past, Dr. Brooks instead uses the Perio Protect method to first chemically debride gums and periodontal pockets of bacteria in the office, and then provide patients with an antibiotic solution worn with customized dental trays for a prescribed amount of time each day for 21 days to eliminate remaining bacteria. If bacteria still persist after treatment, Dr. Brooks then uses advanced laser to kill the bacteria, but allows for the bone to grow back.
In addition to providing non-surgical periodontal therapy for Vero Beach patients, Dr. Brooks also offers a variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures like porcelain veneers, dental implants, and mini implant-retained dentures, as well as orthodontics for adults in 6 months, sedation dentistry, and much more. He and his staff at Vero Dental Spa are committed to helping patients feel comfortable and at-ease during their visit. They pamper patients with heated massage chairs, 3D video, hand paraffin, and moist towels during treatment.
Dr. Brooks is one of the most experienced dental professionals in Florida, and throughout his career has owned four different practices in the Vero Beach area. He is a graduate of Georgetown Dental School and served for several years as a dentist in the U.S. Air Force.
