Sep 05, 2014 /prREACH/ -- Austin, Texas -- The Health Show, hosted by Shannon Jones on KAZI 88.7 FM, invited Dr. Jamie L. Guyden to join the show as a guest speaker. The Health Show is a weekly call-in radio show in which the staff invites members of the professional and public community to discuss issues concerning the health of the Austin population. The program is intended to provide prevention education and resources for the entire Austin community.
Dr. Guyden spoke on the show on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 8 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. She discussed autoimmunity in this country and the benefits of a holistic and healthy lifestyle for autoimmune disease. Dr. Guyden has a special interest in this topic because of her own struggles with Systemic Lupus Erythematous for many years. Once she learned how to control her Lupus symptoms using a holistic approach that included diet, supplementation, and lifestyle management, she developed a new found respect for alternative medical management that she believes puts the mainstream medical model to shame. It has taken Dr. Guyden many years to beat this autoimmune disease, but the victory has generated a passion to guide and educate anyone who has complex, chronic disease and is ready to commit to attaining true health.
On Tuesday, Dr. Guyden explained what autoimmune diseases are, how prevalent they are, and who is usually affected by them. She also discussed why autoimmune diseases vary so greatly and how both, genetics and environment play a role. Dr. Guyden also advised listeners on how to start making effective lifestyle and dietary changes that can spark true healing. "80% of autoimmunity comes from our environment and is in our control," explains Dr. Guyden. "It's diet, stress, sleep, and exposure to toxicity, which now gives you power. There are things you can do to change whether those genes are going to turn on and off and that should make people feel very empowered."
The Health Show was available for live streaming on the radio stations website and listeners were invited to call in with questions about autoimmune conditions and symptoms for Dr. Guyden. The podcast is available on the radio station's website or on Dr. Guyden's website, www.EvolveIntegrativeCare.com.
