Dr. Michael Solly, cosmetic dentist in Knoxville, TN is offering patients a more convenient option for receiving dental crowns with CEREC technology. CEREC, which stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Crowns, represents some of the latest dental technology that uses 3D imaging along with powerful, high-tech milling units to create custom ceramic crowns in the dental office while the patient waits.
Conventionally, patients who required a crown to restore their tooth were required to make anywhere from 1-3 visits to the dentist, which first involved an initial fitting and preparation, followed by receiving a temporary crown. The patient usually would return the week later to receive the crown that had been created by an external lab. If the crown did not fit properly, the patient would have to return yet again days or weeks later for an updated crown. With CEREC technology, Dr. Solly can offer patients custom crowns in one office visit, requiring just 2-3 hours of their time.
The CEREC procedure begins by taking digital impressions of the patient’s tooth, which eliminates the need for unfavorable impression material. The digital impressions are done with extreme precision, recording the exact measurements and anatomy of the tooth to create a virtual model of the tooth.
This digital impression is then used by the milling component of the CEREC machine that mills a color-matched block of ceramic material with diamond-coated milling units. Dr. Solly can then add finishing touches to this precise ceramic restoration by painting, polishing, or glazing it to give the patient the exact look that they desire. Within just 2-3 hours, the patient has a brand new and fully functioning crown.
In addition to offering CEREC technology for cosmetic dentistry in Knoxville, Dr. Solly is also highly trained in sedation dentistry, dental implants, Invisalign clear braces, and other cosmetic procedures such as teeth whitening, veneers, and more.
Dr. Michael Solly has been practicing dentistry for more than 25 years. He is a graduate of Emory University Dental School and also completed his undergraduate education at Florida International University. He is a member of the ADA, American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, the American Orthodontic Society, and the Tennessee Dental Association.
