May 04, 2020 /prREACH/ -- Headbands have become an essential element of PPE for nurses and doctors during the pandemic. BLOM, a popular headband company, is donating 1,100 protective headbands to healthcare workers in the U.S. The headbands protect the hair as well as keep face mask elastic off the ears.

PPE requirements are changing rapidly as more is discovered about the transmission of COVID-19. Headbands have become a surprising piece of equipment to not only help protect hair, whether alone or incorporated with a surgical cap but also as a method for keeping face mask elastic from damaging the backs of the ears.
BLOM is donating 1,100 headbands with buttons to help with the dual task. They are being sent to healthcare workers around the U.S. in bundles of 25 - 50 headbands, allowing the receiving healthcare worker to distribute them to their colleagues at the hospital or clinic where they work.
The headbands are made from the same soft, stretchy fabric as all the company's headbands. The material is comfortable for daily use and, importantly, machine-washable up to 140°F to allow for disinfection after each wear.
The response on the company's Instagram has been positive as healthcare workers learn about the donations. One excited worker writes, "This would be amazing! My ears were killing me after surgery last week. I had three different sets of straps, putting pressure on them. BLOM is amazing!"
"We have been overwhelmed with the need for headbands during the pandemic. We've had a lot of nurses and doctors write to us trying to get our headbands as quickly as possible. We are working hard to meet the demand and urgency. This includes making the ear saver headbands for donation. Right now, we have 1,100 ready for donation. We plan to make more as soon as we have the capacity. We plan to incorporate feedback from nurses and doctors from this first drop into our next production run," said Ariana Bourke, the founder of BLOM.
As a brand known for providing a colorful array of headbands, the bundles of donated headbands will consist of up to seven colors of headbands. Nurses, long-time fans of the brand's products, wear them to keep their hair out of their faces as well as to add individuality and style to their uniforms.
With a cult following, BLOM has sold hundreds of thousands of its headbands since it launched in 2015. The company produces the headbands in Bali, Indonesia, under ethical working conditions. The brand is most well known for its patent-pending multi-style headband — a headband that can be styled in over 14 ways.
