Take Charge and Move Forward – One of the things that can keep pessimists from realizing their dreams and goals is the habit of freezing up and shutting down when bad things happen. There are always going to be unexpected problems or difficult times. Those are things no one can control. However, how people react to the problems is what makes the difference. Optimists do not let barriers, events or difficulties stop them from pushing through and continuing on their quest.
When something happens or if a goal becomes frustrating, stop for a second and see it as a challenge, and decide the best way to get around it. Moving forward is the only way to succeed, whether it is at a current job or when reaching for a dream goal. Whether an optimist actually achieves a grand goal, or not still leaves them much further ahead of where they would have been if they had let negativity stop them.
Channel Positivity and Positive People – Find positive people to be around. It is a catchy and empowering feeling that grows when fed by others. The same can happen with negativity, so it is important to recognize draining people who are always finding fault, or who refuse to believe in the possibilities of a goal, and removing them from the inner circle when possible.
It can be hard when those people are parents or spouses. If a parent or spouse is constantly making positive attitudes impossible, talk with them and help them find good things to focus on. It may not be possible to get them to change their attitudes completely.
No one can make someone change. They have to want to, and believe it is possible themselves. However, even wavering a bit and helping them to concentrate on something other than a negative event will lower the resistance in the surrounding area.
