Feb 23, 2018 /prREACH/ -- When the topic of adoption is broached, many Americans are under the impression that anyone seeking to adopt a newborn should look outside of the United States. This is because of myths that have been spread for decades, myths which state that domestic adoption is nearly impossible, takes years or even decades, and is more expensive than international adoption.

The reality is that each year in the United States, an average of 18,000 newborns are adopted, going directly from the hospital to their home with no time spent in foster care. In addition to this, when surveyed, the majority of adoptive parents indicate that they were matched with their child in less than a year and that the total expenses were around the same that would have been paid had they pursued international adoption. Regardless of how a parent chooses to pursue adoption, the average costs of adoption a child range from $5,000 - $40,000.

Adoptions From The Heart, a private non-profit child adoption agency has been working hard to bring awareness about the benefits of domestic adoption to prospective parents in the U.S. The agency connects birth mothers to waiting families, providing services to all parties involved like access to home study information, financial resources, medical care, and support groups. Lifetime support is also provided for adoptees. Since 1985, the agency has placed more than 6,000 infants and is excited to continue that work today.

In an effort to continue dispelling the myths about domestic adoption, Adoptions From The Heart is hosting a meeting on March 6th, 2018, at 6:00pm. During the meeting, which is free to all who wish to attend, the benefits of domestic adoption will be discussed and all questions attendees they have will be addressed by the social workers present. This meeting is being held at the agency’s Greensburg, PA office which is conveniently located near Pittsburgh, PA.
