SearchBug announces a newly redesigned phone number API tool designed to help companies remain compliant with the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) is now available at this URL www.searchbug.com/api/ on its website.
The newly redesigned tool now offers advanced real-time LNP access which allows users to verify, validate or check to see the line type, carrier name, and see if a phone number has been ported. The tool also reports if a phone number is a wireless (cellular) number, a VoIP number, or a regular (home or office wire line) landline number.
Under the revised TCPA, the FCC is now requiring telemarketers to obtain written consent before calling a mobile phone number with an automated dialer. Those without written consent can use the phone number API tool to weed out cell phone numbers and avoid violating the law.
The service works for all 10 digit phone numbers in the US and Canada.
Additionally, the API tool will identify the telephone company (carrier), OCN (operating company number), and location (rate center city and state). The updated advanced Real-Time LNP tool will also include the date ported and new carrier if any.

Searchbug is currently offering two Identify Phone Number APIs:
* Standard API -- which delivers 95%+ accuracy in determining line type. However, this API only reports the original carrier and does not include a local number portability check (LNP).
* Advanced API -- This API delivers 99% accuracy by checking in Real-Time if phone number was ported. Line Number Portability (LNP) check is included. If the number has been ported, the API returns the latest ported date, the new (current) carrier and line type. This plan can also report the email address for sending text messages to cell phones.
