"We believe in raising healthy and active children that will like to use their imagination and creativity even when they grow up. As parents, it is our responsibility to help them have fun and develop all of their skills," says a spokesperson for the brand. "When accidents happen, our hot and cold reusable gel packs are designed to soothe those boo-boos."
Many health practitioners recommend using ice or heat treatments for no longer than 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Since heat and ice provide different benefits, it is important to note when to apply each one. The company shares the following advice for treating sports injuries from the American Academy of Pediatrics:
Ice is used to decrease pain, swelling, inflammation and muscle spasms or cramping. It is best used after exercise or a pain-producing activity. It is important to note that prolonged use of ice can result in frostbite. It is recommended to use ice a minimum of three times per day, up to once per hour.
Heat is used to improve compliance of soft tissues, relieve pain and reduce spasm. Heat is most useful in warming up stiff or scarred soft tissues before stretching or exercise. Heat may also be useful in relieving pain or spasm associated with neck or back injuries. Using heat for too long or at temperatures that are too high can cause burns.
Xino Sports' ice packs feature innovative gel technology that allows for versatile retention of heat or cold. The brand suggests that customers place the ice pack in the freezer in a zipped bag for ice treatment; when using it as a heat pack, place it in the microwave or a bowl of hot water. Each set comes with three soft-cover packs in a panda, teddy bear and unicorn design. Parents will appreciate the removable outer sleeve that can be easily washed to remove dirt and germs.
"Unlike other gel packs that freeze solid, our non-toxic gel beads are still flexible after freezing and can easily mold around small areas like the eyes and mouth," the brand points out. The four-inch by four-inch size is perfect for children, but also suitable for adult use on smaller injuries.
Amazon customers have been impressed with the product's quality and have noted their children's love of the fun animal designs. One parent happily reports, "We love these ice packs at our house. The soft outsides are great for making sure they don't come in contact with our daughter's skin instead of having to wrap an ice pack in a towel or something first. Also, since they are so cute she wants to use them instead of fighting me on it."
