According to Blue Rocket, marketers that utilize new mobile payment technology, like PayPal and iBeacon, will emerge as leaders in mobile payments space. iBeacon sends a short-range wireless signal via a BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) triggering the PayPal app on a customer’s phone when he or she enters a store. The app then automatically charges an account when the customer is ready to pay, without he or she ever seeing a store invoice or opening their wallet.
Blue Rocket points to the Uber mobile app that seamlessly connects riders to drivers in over 70 cities and also offers frictionless mobile payment transactions. The entire ride experience is managed from a users mobile device—from ordering the ride to choosing the user's location and paying the driver, all without ever exchanging cash or credit card.
Within three to five years, an increasing number of mobile apps will enable consumers to conduct about half of their transactions through their smartphones, without the need to juggle a bunch of different apps, a scanner, a photograph of a barcode, or even a wallet.
